Army Spec. 5 Ronald Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin W. Allen of Beverly Rt. 1, received the Air Medal during recent ceremonies in Vietnam.

 

Spec. 5 Allen earned the award for meritorious service while participating in aerial flight in connection with ground operations in Vietnam. He is a crew chief in the 147th Assault Support Helicopter Company.

Ronald E. Allen, 60, of Aurora Street, Marietta, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (July 17, 2008) at Heartland of Marietta.

 

He was born Feb. 13, 1948, in Beverly, a son of Franklin Wayne and Helen L. Allen. He worked at RJF International in Marietta for 38 years. He graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War serving two tours. He was a former member of the VFW in Marietta.

 

On April 30, 1983, he married his wife, who survives.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; one daughter; four grandchildren; mother; brother; and one sister.

 

He was preceded in death by his father; and one grandchild, Jayson Allen Matson.
