Thomas Sayre

b. abt. 1597 (England) - d. 1671 (NY)

Compiled by Mrs Robert (Anna E Paul-Sears)Lang of Gilman, IA in 1874. Accounts that the first Sayre to come to America was Thomas Sayre. The article also explains when the name was changed from Sayre to Sears - in a move from Southampton, Long Island to Middletown, Conn, they purchased land there on Nov 25, 1720 and changed the spelling of the name to Sears a few years later. This has been verified in references
