Manly married Mary C. Thompson.  He was 16 years old when he married her and she was 23 years old. 

 

Manly and Mary had 11 children and they all survived.  Bert was next to the youngest.  Two of their older children were not Manly’s children. I included a court case concerning Mary and the first child...

 

Morgan County, Ohio Record Book T, pp113-115: Mary C. Thompson an unmarried woman and a resident of the County of Morgan, Ohio, this day complained under oath that she delivered a bastard child and Eli W. Brown is the father.

 

 

Morgan County Ohio Infirmary Records: Oct 1866

The State of Ohio / Morgan County, Manchester Township To the board of directors of the Infirmary in said county these are therefore to command you to receive into your Infirmary Mary Thompson a Pauper from Manchester Twonship in said County. She is a resident of said township, her age is 19 years. She was Born in Belmount County, Ohio. Came to Morgan County January AD 1865 and remained here since and she was Delivered of a Child some two years ago and is now pregnant with child. Previous to that misfortune her Characture was Good to the Best of our knowledge. Expenses and Transportation for Removing Said Pauper Six Dollars.

 

Given under our hands this 6th Day of October AD 1866.
