Newspaper article on 53rd wedding anniversary; 28 Feb. 1935

The celebration of their fifty-third wedding anniversary.  This is the distinction and honor enjoyed and held dear to their hearts by Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Stringer of Dexter City route one, who enjoyed, Tuesday, February 19, in the quietude and peace of their home, the home which they have maintained for fifty-three years, a rock and foundation carefully laid on which their future generations can stand.  Auspicious and honored indeed was the occasion with many of their neighbors, friends and relatives gathering around them and listening to their tales of happiness, heartaches, defeats and triumphs but which with all combined have brought them closer together in the fifty-three years that they have gone along the pathway of life together.  The joy of one was the joy of the other, each shared in the others heartaches and they have now to settle back and enjoy the contentment and bliss of a happily married couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Stringer have lived all their life in Jackson township and have amassed a host of friends around them.  They were united in marriage on February 19, 1882, the ceremony being performed near Centerville, at the home of the bride.    Mrs. Stringer was born May 10, 1862 in Morgan county.  She was formerly Alice F. Jordan, daughter of Charles and Sarah Jordan.  Mr. Stringer was born on November 8, 1863 in Jackson township, the son of William and Anne Stringer

To this union were born nine children, two of whom are deceased, Earl Stringer and Mrs. O. L. Pitt.  The remaining seven are Mrs. T. W. Phillis of Coal Run, Mrs. A. F. Morris of Sharon, Wilda Loene McCarry of Columbus, Mrs. James Pound of Columbus, Norris E. Stringer of Louisville, Harley E. Stringer of Canton and Clayton W. Stringer of Dexter City.     Mr. and Mrs. Stringer have the following grand children to gladden their declining years and around whom they often times gather:  Clyde Phillis of Coal Run, Mrs. Merida Francis of Coal Run, Mrs. Clyde Longfellow of Dexter City, Mrs. Dana Clark of Dexter City, Mrs. Dannie Slater of Coal Run, Willard Phillis of Coal Run, W. W. Stringer of Sharon, Stanley Morris of Chicago, Ill., Dana Morris of Sharon, Mrs. Herbert Clark of Beverly, Donald Morris, Vergil Morris, Amil McCarty of Coal Run, Beman Pound of Columbus, Emerson Pitt of Dexter City, Wayne Stringer of Louisville, Irene Stringer of Canton, Don Stringer of Dexter City and one grandchild, deceased, Margie Phillis.

The happy couple also have 16 great grandchildren and one deceased Mary Lou Francis.  They are Jeane Phillis, Helen Francis, Dorothy Francis, Billy Lee Francis, Vivian Longfellow , Junior Longfellow, Darlene Longfellow, Bob Carl. Fred Carl. Wayne Clark, Donald Ray Clark, Clayton Slater, Glenna Slater, June McCarty, Bob McCarty and Gerald Stringer.  Thus with this host of relatives gathered around them the couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary and with their faces toward the future are going steadfastly ahead with the progress of time.
